Deadly apartment fire in San Leandro – Telemundo Bay Area 48
A person and a dog died Sunday in a fire at an apartment complex in San Leandro, authorities said.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:23 p.m., when the Alameda County Fire Department responded to a two-alarm fire at an apartment in the 14600 block of Washington Avenue.
The entire apartment was engulfed in flames, according to the fire department. Three people were inside at the time and two managed to escape. One person and the family dog succumbed to the fire and died.
The man has been identified as 78-year-old Theodis Patterson.
In total, the fire damaged four apartments and displaced 12 people. Displaced residents receive assistance from the Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
