This resulted in Casalla and Giza suffering burns over 60% of their bodies in addition to fractures.
Before this decision, neighbors and residents managed to hear a call for help from the couple, who, according to one of the relatives of the deceased young man, They rented the apartment through a digital app, where they planned to spend only one night to continue their tourhe hinted Bogotá was there.
“They traveled to different places every year, they were in a relationship for five years. They arrived in Santa Marta on Sunday (September 22) afternoon and rented an apartment. “Angélica told us that they did not turn on the stove, she is conscious and she gave us her version,” stated Gladys Casallas, Edward’s aunt, in a dialogue with the same media.
According to Angelica’s testimony, Gladys says that she “He said they got up early and wanted to heat up some sandwiches to take out, so he opened the microwave and it exploded and set the whole apartment on fire.
In the midst of desperation and searching for a way out amid the flames that engulfed the place, already knowing he would jump from the second floor, Edward helped Angelica get in first. This act represented the saving of his partner’s life, because the young man caused burns on 95% of his body too long after the woman’s jump.
“When he fell to the ground, he was already on fire. “She (Angélica) tried to put out the flames on his head, but he had a broken leg and broken ribs,” added Edward’s aunt, who confirmed that the young woman had serious injuries to 35% of her body and “had surgery.”
Relatives of the couple assured that the transfer to the medical center in Barranquilla (Atlántico) was delayed, a situation that caused Edward’s condition to worsen. “There was no ambulance available. The owner of the apartment took them to the medical center. Edward had 95% of his body burned, (…) It took too long to authorize his transfer to Barranquilla because Compensar did not give permission in time. He was finally transferred on Wednesday evening“
In the midst of Edward’s fight for survival, on the night of Thursday, September 26, in the middle of an operation being performed on him, the young man suffered a cardiac arrest. So at this time, all the hopes, wishes and prayers of both families are placed on Angelica.
With the wish that Edward and Angelica’s body be taken to Bogotá as soon as possible to say goodbye to the young man and continue the process of the woman’s recovery, Both families are just hoping that the authorities will investigate the case thoroughly, due to the number of details that have come to light that so far raise more doubts than certainties.
“It takes 10 days to report from the fire department. We are in the middle of extradition proceedings for my nephew because the prosecutor’s office was unaware of the case; “Apparently the police didn’t report what happened,” explained Gladys, who was concerned after learning that the authorities had initially failed to report the incident.
“We want the facts straight because some media outlets are saying it was their fault for leaving the stove on, but Angelica told us her version and that’s not the case.” Edward’s aunt closed.
