Cali is now ready for COP 16: “It is the most important event organized by Colombia”
Alejandro Eder, the mayor of Cali, announced that the city is ready to host the United Nations Conference on Biological Diversity (COP16), which will take place from October 21 to November 1, 2024. According to Eder, this event is not only the most important event that Colombia organized, but it is already generating positive impacts on the local economy.
The official explained that 12 heads of state, the UN Secretary-General and the Prosecutor-General of the International Criminal Court and 15,000 official delegates are expected to arrive. “We estimate that only 15,000 delegates will leave $25 million in the Cali economy, the positive effect of the COP is starting to show,” said Eder. in an interview in W radio.

As for security, Toro said it would be guaranteed for all participants, with 4,000 police officers deployed in Cali and 1,500 in Buenaventura.
COP16 will not only be a discussion and decision-making event on biodiversity, but will also offer a cultural and tourist experience. Visitors will be able to visit iconic destinations such as the San Cipriano Nature Reserve and the Sonso Lagoon, and enjoy cultural, gastronomic and sports tourism.
