The plane crash left the Colombian public forces in mourning. In the early hours of September 29, a Colombian Air Force helicopter crashed in the village of Garabato in the jurisdiction of Cumaribó, Vichada. The result of the event claimed the lives of eight uniformed aircrew members.

President Gustavo Petro was in charge of publishing the report on the outcome of the plane crash. Through his social networks, the head of state expressed his condolences to the surviving relatives of those who perished in the tragedy.

However, Green Party Senator Jonathan Ferney Pulido Hernández, also known as Jota Pe Hernández on social media, expressed displeasure at the Colombian president’s words regarding the accident. The lawmaker also recalled Gustav Petr’s past in the M-19 guerilla, noting that “he continues to be an enemy of the law.”

Regarding the head of state’s words about the accident, he said that: “I regret to announce the death of 8 members of @FuerzaAereaCol who were traveling on a humanitarian mission in the department of Vichada, their helicopter crashed. Solidarity hugs to their families amid this news that is grieving the country.”

Green Party senator Jota Pe Hernández did not miss the opportunity to attack the president in this context, who linked the unfortunate accident to his rebellious past.

The congressman said in his message that President Petro is responsible for the deceased uniformed officers, adding them to the victims of his days in the M-19 guerrilla group, according to the senator. In addition, he accused the head of state of being an “enemy” of law and order, pointing out that in his opinion, Colombians lack a president to protect them.

“Add them to the list you’ll remember forever, there must be hundreds of casualties since you were in the M19.” Colombians today do NOT have a president who protects them because he continues to be an enemy of law and order since he was a guerrilla,” the lawmaker belonging to the First Senate Commission wrote through his X account.

Regarding the crash, the Air Force Bureau reported the plane missing at approximately 9:00 a.m Subsequently, the institution and President Petro confirmed that the helicopter suffered an accident in the village of Garabato in Cumaribo. The FAC reported that Huey II FAC 4441 was located by its aircraft’s electro-optical systems.

In a statement, the aviation authority clarified that after an intensive search mission, it was concluded that there were no survivors. They also expressed their condolences and support to the families of the crew members who lost their lives. “We pay tribute to the eight heroes and heroines of the injured crew during the humanitarian mission in Vichada. They swore service to the country and laid down their lives ‘That others may live,'” they said on their X account.

The Air Force said in a statement that the crash crew consisted of four men and four women, identification of the deceased as Captain Julián Perilla Pinto, Second Lieutenant Edgar Durán Villarreal, Second Technician Jhonattan Caro Rincón, Third Technician Liceth Duarte Barbosa, Fourth Technician Karel Rojas Núñez, Fourth Technician Luis Montoya Ospina, Fourth Technician Ana María Technician Guti González Ramírez.

The accident occurred at approximately 4:00 a.m. while the helicopter was conducting a humanitarian mission in the area.
