One year on from the 7 October attacks: Is the EU powerless in Middle East escalation?

It has been a year since Israel suffered its worst terror attack ever, with Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups killing more than 1,000 Israelis and taking more than 250 hostage. Israel’s response has devastated Gaza, displacing the largest part of the population and killing more than 41,000 people, according to Gaza health authorities. Meanwhile, Lebanon has been hit hard by the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, with Israel eviscerated the leadership of Hezbollah, in response to which Iran launched a massive missile attack on Israel. The EU has recognized Israel’s right to defend itself, while also warning of an “uncontrollable regional escalation”. But beyond such statements, and apart from providing financial or humanitarian aid, what can the EU actually do? We are discussing it with two MEPs.
