Bollard avoided tragedy: an overturned car in Bogotá nearly ran over two pedestrians and a dog
The Chapinero community was shocked by a traffic accident that happened on the night of September 27 in Bogotá. The gray vehicle overturned at Carrera 7th and Calle 55, north-south, causing significant damage to the roadway.
As reported by the Bogotá traffic police through their X account, the accident happened around 7:30 at night.

The first images shared on social media showed various damages to the road infrastructure, including concrete dividers and a fence, which the vehicle would have hit before overturning.
Video captured by a security camera in the sector shows the exact moment of the accident. The images show how the vehicle, apparently trying to change lanes, loses control and crashes into one of the concrete barriers.causing it to lift and tip over. Two pedestrians who were walking on the sidewalk were miraculously saved, reacted quickly and left the scene.
At this time, it has not been determined whether the accident was caused by excessive speed, drunkenness, mechanical failure or another reason.
This accident joins a series of road accidents that have happened in Bogotá this year. The Bogotá Mobility Observatory reported that by September 19, 2024, 402 deaths and 15,819 injuries were recorded in traffic accidents in the city.

This Saturday, September 28, according to the Ministry of Mobility, Bogotá became the site of many traffic accidents. ANDAmong the most recent incidents, the overturning of a truck on La Esperanza avenue and Carrera 103B in the city of Fontibón stands out. This accident, which occurred in the east-west direction, joins three others reported in the city during the same day.
Traffic authorities along with ambulance units and tow trucks were quickly deployed to deal with the situation in Fontibón. This incident joins a series of accidents that have affected mobility in different parts of the Colombian capital.
Another notable accident occurred in the city of Kennedy, where a truck overturned at Guayacanes Avenue and 12th Street, heading south-north. The incident was reported by Tránsito Bogotá at 7:52 in the morning, prompting an immediate response from the authorities to direct traffic and help those who might be affected.
In addition, the traffic jam was aggravated by the overturning of private vehicles on the Medellin highway at kilometer 1.5 in the east-west direction. This accident caused significant delays on Calle 80 and Carrera 116, particularly affecting feeder route 1-8 and dual service DL81. Some mobiles on the LD81 route were forced to return at Portal 80 to mitigate the impact on service.
On Friday, September 27, a traffic accident ended tragically in the Las Mariposas tunnel, which is located at kilometer 09 of the Ibagué – Armenia highway. Two people lost their lives and three were injured when a private vehicle collided with the rear of a tractor-trailer due to a brake system failure.
The fatal victims were identified as María Isabel Mirque Toro and Luis Alfonso Mirque Torowho were traveling in a car with three other passengers. The injured were taken to medical facilities for medical treatment.
The accident occurred at night, causing a temporary disruption of mobility in the area. Initially, one lane was allowed, although traffic was later normalized without major inconvenience.
