Emirates invests $30 million in Ghana


The United Arab Emirates announced on Sunday that it plans to invest $30 million in Ghana to support biodiversity and climate-friendly projects.

This initiative is part of a letter of intent signed between the two countries to support nature-based community development and climate solutions and identify priority investment areas in Ghana.

Initiated by the Emirati Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak Al Shamsi, and Ghana’s Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Jinapor, the document identifies six areas of investment, including biodiversity, reforestation and agroecology, whose impact is beneficial for climate, biodiversity and community development, while emphasizing gender equality and youth empowerment.

This partnership, which is part of the Resilient Ghana nature-climate strategy, also sets parameters for measuring, reporting and verifying GHGs under the REDD+ programme. Ghana.

“Our partnership with Ghana demonstrates the importance the UAE places on global biodiversity, climate and development goals.” the Emirati minister explained, according to the WAM news agency.

This investment will not only support Ghana’s reforestation efforts, but will also have a wider positive impact on local communities, he added.

For his part, Samuel Jinapor emphasized that any effort to solve the problem of deforestation requires human resources and funds, noting that this cooperation with the Emirates will contribute to improving the living conditions of local populations and protecting ecosystems.
