Extreme heat affects Bay Area cities – Telemundo Bahía Region 48
Summer temperatures are approaching fall this week in the Bay Area.
For this reason, The National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat warning for Monday in effect until Wednesday at 11 p.m.
In Concord, temperatures reached 90 degrees on Monday.
Telemundo 48 toured the streets of the city to find out about the feelings of street workers who, with or without heat, have to go to work.
“We don’t have any other kind of income, so whether it’s hot or cold, we have to go out to work,” said Jacqueline Tellez, a street vendor.
The vendor said that last year she suffered from heatstroke, so this time she took precautions and went out with plenty of water to stay hydrated.
“Actually, that’s why I grabbed that stroller recently when the weather hit 108, my blood pressure went up and I couldn’t walk and I couldn’t,” Jacqueline said.
The authorities issued a number of recommendations for people who decide to carry out outdoor activities:
- Wear light-colored clothing
- Wear a cap, also light colored
- Stay hydrated
- Exercise in the morning or at the end of the day
- Drink water at a comfortable temperature, not ice cold
Likewise, PG&E also warned of possible precautionary power outages due to high temperatures, so if you’re without power, it recommended:
- Keep the freezer and refrigerator closed
- Turn off or unplug devices
- open the windows
- Charge your cell phone and consider adding a portable charger
To report a power outage call 1800-743-5002.
