Ghana’s President Akufo-Addo says security in Sahel has ‘deteriorated’ since French troops left
In an interview with FRANCE 24, Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo said he hopes Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger will rejoin the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) regional bloc. The decision by the three countries’ military councils to withdraw from ECOWAS was a setback and the security situation has worsened since the departure of French troops from the Sahel region last year, Akufo-Addo admitted.
