Homeless housing in San José – Telemundo Bay Area 48

San Jose’s mayor will invest funds to expand the project called “The Rue Ferrari,” which will provide affordable housing to individuals and families living on the streets.

“It’s very important that we have places where homeless people can live,” said Matt Mahan, the city’s mayor.

This initiative will provide shelter for approximately 144 people who will live in approximately 31 new units divided into 60 single-person units. 36 with double rooms and about 12 for people with special access.

“We need shelter, very basic care beds for small homes with services as an alternative to the streets,” Mahan said.

This project started in 2021 and already hosts around 124 people. It is expected that when completed it will help a total of 250 people.

“This solution is cheaper and faster and it improves the neighborhoods near the site because in those places we have less camps because we have a place where people can be,” Mahan emphasized.

With these houses the city hopes to reduce the number of people living on the streets.
