Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) reported that several towns in southern Lebanon were hit by “massive attacks” by Israelis, mostly targeting towns adjacent to the coastal city of Tyre, about 20 kilometers from the border with Israel.
According to state media, some of the affected municipalities were Mifdoun, Ansar, Deir al Qanun or the Nabatiyeh area, but the shelling also targeted “the southern entrance” to Tyre, where thousands of people have been displaced in recent years. days to escape the wave of airstrikes.
Just this morning the Israeli military ordered the evacuation of about twenty towns near Tire and a little further north, while announcing the deployment of more troops to the area after Israeli forces launched a series of limited ground raids.
“Hezbollah’s activities are forcing the army to act strongly against the group. The army has no intention of harming them, so for their safety, they should immediately evacuate their homes and head north of the Awali River,” he said in a statement by the Arab spokesman of the Israel Defense Forces, Avichay Adraee.
For its part, ANN reported that the shelling also hit some towns in the Hermel region of northeastern Lebanon and a civil defense center in Dahye that had been evacuated moments before the attack following an Israeli order issued last night that southern suburbs of Beirut.
In addition, the Chiyakh district and two surrounding buildings were hit by the attacks in the suburbs, the agency added.
Israel announced on Monday that it had launched a “limited, localized and targeted” ground invasion of Lebanon.
Just yesterday, Israeli shelling killed at least 55 people and wounded 156 others in southern and eastern Lebanon, according to Lebanon’s public health ministry.
For its part, Hezbollah announced that this Wednesday it repelled an Israeli “infantry force” trying to enter the border town of Oddaisseh, as part of a ground offensive launched early Monday morning against southern Lebanon.
In all, the brutal bombing campaign over about two weeks has left more than a thousand dead and a million displaced, many of whom have fled to areas considered safe further north in the country, including Beirut, although tens of thousands have also crossed the border into Syria.
