New closures announced in Bogotá: work begins on Primero de Mayo Avenue between Villavicencio Avenue and 41b South Street
The capital is already preparing for a new night closure on Primero de Mayo Avenue due to construction work on the First Metro Line (Plmb) project. Of this, the District Mobility Secretariat has approved a full west-east closure between Villavicencio Avenue and 41B South Street.
The closure will take place on Monday 30 September 2024 and will last for approximately two months, at night from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m., in accordance with Metro Bogotá’s schedule.

According to the Department of Mobility, the purpose of the closure is to allow the installation of the launch beam to continue in Part A – Section 2 of the project in accordance with contract EMB-163-2019. To minimize the impact on mobility, the Secretariat has proposed a Traffic Management Plan (PMT), which includes specific detours for private vehicles and public transport.
Therefore, users traveling West-East on Primero de Mayo Avenue must take Villavicencio Avenue East, then Carrera 78 North, Transverse 78 North, Diagonal 40C East, Carrera 72R North and finally Carrera 73 North or Calle 40 Sur to the west to continue on its usual route. This detour is marked in purple on Map 2.
For those traveling on Villavicencio Avenue in the east-west direction and wanting to take Primero de Mayo Avenue to the east, they must follow Carrera 78 to the north, Transverse 78 to the north, Diagonal 40C to the east, Carrera 72R to the north. , and Carrera 73 to the north or Calle 40 Sur to the west, as shown on Map 2 in black.
Users traveling west-east on 42nd Street South and wishing to take Primero de Mayo Avenue east must follow Carrera 78 north, Transverse 78 north, diagonal 40C to the east, Carrera 72R to the north and Carrera 73 to the north or Calle 40 Sur to the west, according to Map 2 in red.
For cyclists and pedestrians, it is recommended to drive through permitted areas and cross at intersections and places designated for this purpose. In addition, all users of this sector are requested to take into account the information contained in this PMT and travel with caution and follow the road signs and instructions of the responsible personnel.
Users of the Integrated Public Transport System (SITP) must board and disembark buses at designated stops to avoid inconvenience.. The Mobility Secretariat emphasized the importance of following these recommendations to guarantee the safety of all road users and to facilitate the implementation of the metro construction activities, a key project to improve mobility in the city.
