Tunisia votes in presidential elections in a context of repression




Incumbent Kais Saied looks poised to win another term in Sunday’s presidential election with just two opposition candidates: a former lawmaker who backed Saied’s 2021 mandate and a recently jailed businessman. Tunisia’s electoral commission has barred 14 candidates from running during a campaign marred by a crackdown on dissent.
